Today I had a flight leaving Okinawa Naha International Airport at 5:40 p.m. to Shanghai Pudong Airport. I checked into our flights at 12:30 p.m. and nothing was made known about the flight being cancelled. We had to find a ride to the airport and drove all the way to the airport and arrived at 3 p.m. ready to begin our vacation and find out that our flight was cancelled. We were never notified that it was cancelled until we got there and saw on the board that it was cancelled. I later received an email at 4:50 p.m. that our flight was cancelled, but we had already left the airport by then. When I tried to ask the representative what we are supposed to do, she was not of much help and then I was physically shoved by a group of people and she told them what was happening and what to do and completely ignored me and my husband. We finally found out after some guy translated for us that we would have to come back tomorrow and hope to get on a flight out tomorrow. Our connecting flight to Rome leaves at 12:35 p.m. and the first flight out of Okinawa leaves at 2:30 p.m. so needless to say we will miss yet another flight tomorrow. We were not offered reimbursement for any of the trouble

Flew with China Eastern on Tuesday the 16th of May from Melbourne to Amsterdam with a stop over in Shanghai. Pleasantly surprised with my experience flying with this airline. In flight entertainment was good, were able to play games on it and plenty of movies to choose from. Meals were also good, got 2 meals on each of the flights, both of which were good.

I would never fly this airline again. I flew from Sydney to Tokyo via Shanghai, where I had to self transit between PVG and SHA airports. Only one of my bags came off the plane at PVG. The other was left on the plane. There was zero assistance from ground staff, I had to follow up my bag myself once on Japan. Customer service were utterly useless, never contacting me back and not taking any notes about my situation. Every call was more infuriating then the previous. All the customer service could tell me was to call the airport even though they did not answer any of the three phone numbers I was given. After days and what must have been hundreds of calls, I finally got through and with a series of short emails managed to arrange my bag to go on the plane the following day. I had to go to the airport myself and collect from arrivals and bring through customs. Three days waisted with no compensation whatsoever. Don’t do it, you get what you pay for, in this case zero customer service

I flew from Toronto to Shanghai on a Boeing 777-300ER in February 2017. And then a shorter flight to Bangkok. China Eastern is a “get what you pay for” situation. The flight was very reasonably priced and some of the whiners on this page seem to think they should get first class seats and service at economy prices. Or complain about everything. You are in a plane, hurdling at 900 kmh no one can expect the comforts of home! Admittedly the food was pretty ghastly, but then again so it a lot of the food in foreign countries (except Thailand). And unless you are flying first class, airline food is reminiscent of hospital food anyway. Overall, it was a good airline for the price. Not perfect but it was fine.
