Cathay Pacific

Cathay is a very good airline but has too many old airplanes in service on short and medium haul routes to deserve a top rating.
I mostly fly to Singapore and KL and, typically, about half of my flights are in the old cabins – with poor A/V (often not working) and seats and tables that are in very poor condition.
Service varies. On some flights the service is excellent – especially compared to the various US airlines, but increasingly the staff seems stressed and “service with a smile” is often absent. Business class service is a different thing but I mostly fly economy.

Recently I have travelled to the USA with Cathay Pacific. As I need wheelchair assistance the check-in person actually wheeled me to the business class lounge herself as there were no men available to do that as my flight had been delayed for 2 hours, something very unusual for Cathay Pacific so didn’t leave until the early hours of the morning. She couldn’t do enough for me under these circumstances. I was to fly to JFK via Hong Kong and due to the bad weather in the USA many flights were cancelled causing major headaches for all concerned and due to this problem as well as arriving late in Hong Kong I had missed all my connecting flights but the HK staff managed to book me on another flight with a different airline to Chicago only to find out my flight had been cancelled there also where I was stuck for 3 days but finally have reached my destination. I can recommend Cathay Pacific 100%, they are the most courteous and helpful staff I have met.

Flew Melbourne – Hong Kong return, Outbound May, Inbound July 2013. Highly impressed with Customer Care: There was a couple on our return flight (HK>Mel)who had been having the ‘trip home from hell’ ! : the wife was very ill, LONG long delays between connecting flights etc. poor things. They were travelling economy class. As we boarded the Cathay return home flight we walked past them seated in Business Class ! The BRILLIANT Cathay people had upgraded them (not that the poor wife could appreciate it in her state). 11/10 for CATHAY service.
