I was flying MDE to SCL, and the AV8435 was delayed in 18 mins. They wouldn’t let us checkin because we wouldn’t make our connection in Bogota (AV97, departing at 22:22). I said it was important for us to get to Santiago on Nov 5 before 8am to attend my son’s First Comunion.

I spent early two hours at Avianca’s business class checkin with the supervisor (Marcela Restrepo), who wasn’t able to find a solution. We ended up showing her options we looked in our cell, because all alternatives she shown us were getting us in Chile a day later.

To make a story short:: after two hours of waiting, she was unable to put us on any plane, and the best option she offered was getting back to Santiago on Sunday 06.

At that point, my wife when online on her cell, and we bought two business class tickets MED-SCL that put us earlier than any of their options. It took us 5 mins.

When two persons with a cell phone are able to solve a problem in 4.1% of the time that a crew, with -supposedly- modern information systems is a signal that something is VERY wrong with Avianca.

These Avianca business tickets are the most expensive one’s for the worst experience of my life.

Do not ever use this airline. I had the most stressful 24 hours of my life dealing with them. Long story short, this September I was in Peru with 3 other people and we had a flight from Lima to Cusco at 2:00 on a Wednesday. We had a Machu Picchu tour booked for the following day that was leaving at 6:30 am. We had a meeting at 7:30 pm that Wednesday night in Cusco at the hostel for our Machu Picchu tour. We knew we would have plenty of time as it’s only about an hour flight. We got to the airport about 2 hours early, got on the plane, sat there for about 30 minutes and then were told to get off the plane. We all got off and were told that there’s a mechanical failure so we were going to be moved to a different plane. They let about 6 people on that other plane and said it was now full. They said we would now be moved to a different airline, Latam and put on a 5:30 flight. Fine. So we waited in that line for Latam and then were told that that plane was now full and to go wait in the Avianca line again. So we did, to then be told that there are no more flights today and we would have to get a flight the following day. After much crying, yelling, arguing and being at the airport for a

From the moment we checked in at Cali, Colombia to the moment we walked out of JFK New York’s airport we had a terrible experience. Our agent at Cali AGENT ID# MQUIN6038 told us we couldn’t upgrade our flight to first class, that we would have to do it at the technical stop in Medellin, which is completely wrong. Then told us we don’t do immigration in Cali, that we must exit the airplane at the technical stop in Medellin, INCORRECT AGAIN. We were boarding the airplane in Cali when the other girl checked our passports for an immigration stamp and informed us we would have to go all the way back to the door to do immigration. Finally getting on the flight and having it land terribly in Medellin and terrible landing in NY we got off at JFK went through immigration and waited AN HOUR AND A HALF FOR OUR LUGGAGE. Because Avianca didn’t plan accordingly with the carousels at JFK and they had 3 flights come in at the same time. Terrible experience. They damaged my suitcase again. This airline has gone down in customer service. I wouldn’t recommend anyone fly with them.

I called Avianca customer service today to get an update on my refund request. I was told my refund request was denied due to not having a medical certificate. However you email about says something different. At this point I am a little annoyed and disappointed with your customer service. I would just like my refund especially since I have the documentation to support my reasoning for no longer going on the trip. It really should be as simple as just transferring my money back to me. I have reached out to you guys several times and every time I am being told something different. This experience does not make me want to ever fly with this airline again.
