Flew Economy Class
Scheduled a flight for my college commencement ceremony. After unexpected expenses from, ya know, the trash economy I cancelled the flights. No where did it say they were nonrefundable. I requested a refund and was denied. I called in to see if I could explain it all and the rep assured me this happens all the time and not to worry. Even gave me refund processing times. But it was denied again. They just keep implying I’m just out of luck. They gave me a flight credit but I explained my ID loses flight compliance soon and that since the expenses are ongoing (increased childcare costs) that I won’t be able to use them before they expire AND that I booked this for a one-time event. They are a 6 Billion Dollar company and can’t give me $800 back. I even asked for a partial refund. They are money hungry people that don’t care even a little bit about their customers. They won’t even listen.

DO NOT RECOMMEND!! They don’t care. They lost my baggage, didn’t do anything about it, even if we called, customer service wasn’t helping. They have a 5 day policy, and we were staying for a week. They were suppose to bring it to us. But they decide to send it to this other place. Where we have to wait longer so they can FINALLY bring it to us.

When checking in for the Traverse City to Chicago flight we requested that the airline check our bag all the way through to our final destination. We were told that since the flights were on different tickets that that was impossible. Yet, we had been able to do that before on the same routing. The gate we were to arrive at and the gate we needed to transfer to were both in the same section of the terminal (N). Yet, we were required to go to baggage, pick up our bag, check it in with Alaska Airlines for the continued flight, and go on back through security. Unfortunately, the bag was too big to do a gate check as most people were doing. This process took at least 1 hour in Chicago. I might add that my husband and I are both over 80 and even moving a large suitcase was impossible for us. Thank goodness for the wheelchair attendant who figured out the routing, handled the case in question, and helped it get checked through. This unfortunate experience spoiled the entire trip for us.

I was considering switching from Alaska to American. The first, and last, trip I booked had 4 segments. Of those, 2 were cancelled and was delayed 3 hours. Unless there are no options, I will never fly American again.

Do NOT do business with this airline. They are unethical and clearly trying to create reasons to collect additional charges and fees due to covid and the unscrupulous staff they have in place. Wouldn’t have believed it if I didn’t experience it myself. In getting a $610 ticket, I was told to wait to calculate taxes, while they coaxed another passenger off and ultimately charged me $2900. Never again!!
