Arrived home this morning after flying Air Asia Penang > KL > Gold coast . Our luggage flew Penang > Singapore > 10 hours later we are still unsure where our luggage is.
Due to our Penang flight being an hour and a half late we only just made our KL flight main factor here NO booking luggage all the way though!!!!
No offer of upgrade, no offer of coffee in Gold coast airport while we waited an hour to find out where our luggage could be. Gold Coast attendants offered advice “KL is a big airport ! It happens”.
We understand this but we hold serious SAFETY concerns that luggage on Air Asia does not always match the passenger list.
Air Asia gold coast committed to calling us as soon as our luggage arrived.
We had to follow up ……Hope we get our luggage

I am totally disappointed in so many aspects of the Air Asia experience. From troubles with internet page not working to eventually having to fork out extra $$ to change flight to every piece of advice being totally different to the next member of staff you speak to. To finish it , My husband was separated in seating to us on way home but ended up beside a lady who vomited most of the 8hour trip. Her partner then started to vomit the last 2 hours as well. Although cabin crew informed the couple they would have to be quarantined at Sydney and although they sprayed the cabin near the end of the flight they DID NOT move the couple or even move my husband in case of infection. So my husband has been sent home from work today with vomiting and cramps , he won’t be able to work tomorrow either. So far my daughter and I haven’t caught it but its just the icing on the cake for us with no positive experience with Air Asia at all.

EDITORS COMMENT: If there was a spare seat on the aircraft your husband should definitely have been moved- sounds like an awful flight for him. The only way to guarantee a seat together on any low cost carrier is to pre pay to reserve seats.

I fly AirAsia X a lot – about 30 flights per year. It is interesting to read many of the negative comments here. They are generally correct, but I think you need to understand AirAsia. If you expect it to be like Singapore Airlines you will hate it. If you are familiar with how they work, you will love them. So, some AA tips:
    – Always prebook the breakfast on an overnight flight (cheaper and you get more), but not any other meals (see what you feel like on the flight.)
    – Catering is only re-stocked in KL so if you are on a return flight to KL the food could have been on the plane for 24 hrs. Choose meals that will handle that and not dry out. (Stew yes, roast chicken NO)
    – Have some cash with you (RM) is best.
    – Avoid the back of the plane even if it looks empty online – they fill the plane from the back with group bookings at the last minute.
    – Buy the hot seat upgrade. I like row 7 on A330 or row 1 on A320 or exit row. Long haul it is about $50 and $10 on short trip. Because very few passengers pay the extra, you will usually have a spare seat next to you. It is the best value $50 you will spend.
There are many others, but just remember it is a low cost airline.

EDITORS COMMENT: Great advice – thanks for sharing

Just got off an 9hr flight.
When I boarded the flight I was not aware that Air Asia did not provide any inflight entertainment, food, beverages, pillows or blankets. I re-checked my booking itinerary and found that the only way I could have found this out is if I had decided to ‘manage my booking’ prior to the flight. My complaints are 3 fold:
    1) When I book a flight I should know what I am getting before I book it and when it is booked, it should be booked, I shouldn’t have to then manage it….
    2) I received 21 emails from Air Asia after I booked the flight all titled ‘Air Asia Reservations’. Each email asked if I wanted to upgrade to business class. I consider this spam. None of these emails asked if I wanted food or beverages, or in flight entertainment.
    3) Water. Water is confiscated at the baggage check at the airport. Water is an essential service – just like a toilet and air. Water should be free – I should not have to pay for water no matter how much money I am saving.
    Not happy.

EDITORS COMMENT: On the very first page where you select the flights you want you are offered the bundle upgrade options for meals, luggage and seat. We agree that water should be provided complimentary and the fact that there are no blankets or pillows could be made clear. However this is a low cost carrier – the reason you chose this flight was because of the cheaper fare. No one can expect a full service product at that fare. This is why this website was developed – to make sure customers are informed before they fly.
