As a very frequent traveler, do not expect any special treat from VA. If you want upgrades, pay or use your points. In 4 years, being a Platinum member, I was never upgraded for free except for a couple of complimentary upgrades. But even using your complimentary upgrades is not a given, and you will end up losing it.
Lounges are ok but packed. Planes are recent and well maintained.
Customer service is very very poor.
