Flew CX170 PERHKG on A330G, 12Dec. Delayed departure from Perth due to late arrival of previous flight, thus taking off at 00:15 on 13Dec. Eta at HKG at 0730, landed 1/2 hour later. Great flight. BUT… why are we being served a dinner, in this case at 0215, cleared an hour later, to be served breakfast three hours later, at 0600?
Night departing flights should not serve dinner as I believe most passengers will have had that meal earlier on, at home or restaurant. If pax want to eat, snacks, like soups (not useless sweets), could be made available, and in so doing save on weight and cost of those meals. Instead, airlines such as CX are cutting cost to the extent of not supplying pepper’n salt on economy, yet splurging on business and first! Economy represents about 80% of a plane’s passenger load, and it is that 80% that must endure such benign savings! Wine served in plastic cups! For food’s sake, why can it not be served in proper glass glasses? Safety nor savings (on weight) are excuses.
So unless airlines get their priorities right and stop treating economy passengers as mere cattle, I see no reason to give them high marks.
