Within our seven star safety rating system, two stars are allocated if the airlines country of origin meets or exceeds all 8 criteria set out and audited by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). If the country that the airline originates from only meets 5, 6 or 7 of these criteria then we only award the airline one of the possible two stars. If the airline meets 4 and less then we don't award any of the two stars we allocated for ICAO.So in the case for Thai Airways they only get one of the possible two stars allocated for this because the country of Thailand only meets 6 of the 8 criteria set out by ICAO.
