Have Your Say is all about exactly that…having your say. We want to hear your thoughts, tips and suggestions on the airline industry as a whole and answer any question you have for the AirlineRatings.com team.

This section is however, not for sharing your experience with a specific airline - please go to our passenger review section for this. Any ‘Have Your Say’ we receive that is about your experience with a specific airline will not be published.

I am leaving this review to the world to see. Etihad airline is the worst airline you can imagine traveling international. I got to the U.S. gate in Abu Dhabi with my 2 small children, 7 minutes late(45 minutes before the flight) and the ground staff denied us boarding. I told them why don’t you have no announcement or call for the flight, they did not respond. The worst part of our trip happened when the transfer desk didn’t issue us another ticket to send us with the next flight. They said pay 3000 dollars for re-booking and when I said I don’t have my credit cards and I can’t buy a new ticket, their attitude was: ” We are here to make money”, ” Go find someone to buy you new ticket”. It took us 2 days to finally reach the U.S. with another airline and laying over in another airport. When I called my ticket agent and Etihad agent, Etihad said “Your return ticket is also cancelled because you did not continue your trip with us!” I told him how would I when I don’t have money to go on?! Etihad agent hung up! Trying to resolve it through email and other means, but Etihad says there is no mistake! What did they expect?! With No money and no alternative, my kids and I were in limbo situation sitting in their cold airport waiting and the airline simply did not CARE. There are many airline with great deals, never choose Etihad, ever.

As frustrating as that is, the airline are well within their rights. It is the passengers responsibility to be at the gate before time. Airlines need to finalize the weight and balance of the aircraft and take on extra fuel or cargo as needed. Last minute passenger changes cost money and time. Airlines have had to cut down or out announcements because there are at most major airports too many flights to do so.

I was VERY surprised that you did not list COPA airlines. They have a superior safety record. The service is outstanding. Not only do you get a choice of food & beverage at no extra charge, but they provide REAL cutlery.

Editors' Comment

COPA do score a perfect 7/7 for safety. There are 140 airlines that do, but our top safest just includes the top 20. These airlines are leaders in safety innovation and are often the first to market with new initiatives.

We have reviewed Garuda Indonesia airlines safety rating flying from Heathrow to Bali and see it had a safety rating of 3. What does that mean?

Editors' Comment

Please read our safety rating explanation here for full details https://www.airlineratings.com/safety_rating_criteria.phpGaruda have IOSA and are allowed in the EU - the other areas, like most Indonesian airlines, they fail on.It should make more sense once you've read the above link but feel free to contact us at [email protected] should you have other questions.

How come Garuda Indonesia which have the lowest safety ratings among Asian airlines became a 5star airline?

Editors' Comment

They are far from having the lowest safety rating among Asian carriers. Carriers in Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia and the Philippines all score equally and lower than them . We score them a 3/7 so not sure where the 5 has come from? https://www.airlineratings.com/ratings/12/garuda-indonesia

Thank you.

Editors' Comment

You can find all you need to know about our safety rating here https://www.airlineratings.com/safety_rating_criteria.phpYou will have to speak with JACDEC about their rating as we do not know enough to comment fairly.

Your article about the early B707 inaugural flights with TWA & AA was interesting, just how far we have come since those days.
Maybe you could find some interest in an article about the first intercontinental jet airliner, DH Comet, afterall it was in service years before B707, if it wasn’t for DHs lack of understanding of metal fatigue DH aeroplanes could be the dominant manufacturer today???

have any of your staff done a survey on either Cebu pacific or Philippines airlines? my wife is from Davao so we travel quite a lot to that city, mostly with Singapore and silk airlines. but we have had to use either of the other 2 travelling within the Philippines, not a great experience.

Editors' Comment

No we haven't personally flown with them yet but we know that Cebu operate the most tightly configured A330 on long flights and that PAL have a mish mash product in that the new 777s are great but the densely configured A330's and A320s with no personal IFE are trying, so your comments aren't surprising.

In your recent safest airline 2016 ranking there you did not include AirSerbia (former JAT Airways). How so?

Editors' Comment

To be included an airline must score a 7/7 on our safety ratings. Air Serbia scores a 6/7 because the country of Serbia doe not meet all the averages set out by the ICAO country audit. They are an excellent airline and very safe but to be included for consideration in our world's safest they need to be getting a 7/7 first. For a full explanation of ICAO and our safety rating system please go to this link https://www.airlineratings.com/safety_rating_criteria.php

I would like to ask Geoffrey why reports say “The Egypt Air plane disappeared from radar” This implied some feat by Houdini or David Copperfield because the plane is still there, albeit not as it was when it took off. I would have thought that a radar reflection from debris would be just as good (if not better) than one whole plane – is this not why military planes discharge chaff to confuse enemy radar?

Editors' Comment

The Egyptair flight fell off commercial ATC radar because its transponder ceased to transmit a signal which is what ATC radar picks up. Military radar however picks up the return from the aircraft. This is what happened with MH370

Great website! I have a question pertaining to flap track fairings. I understand they are to help with aerodynamics, but I have noticed on some flights that the one directly behind the engine will vibrate. None of the others seem to have any movement, and it also only seems to do it while on the ground and not during flight. I’ve always been interested to know if this is normal or if they should generally not be moving.
A second question if I may…during taxi to the runway recently, there was an audible “clunk” sound from under the cabin. It was loud enough to hear throughout the plane I’m sure. It would happen during roll as well as when we were stopped and waiting for clearance. It sounded as if someone were underneath and hitting the plane with a large hammer! It wasn’t really a consistent interval, just once every 15 seconds or so. I didn’t hear it during flight but it resumed once we landed. Any idea what that could have been?

Editors' Comment

Flap track fairings when stowed are designed to be aerodynamic for high speed flight but when deployed to support the flaps yes they will vibrate. This is particularly the case with the one directly behind the engine ” depending on the model. As far as the clunking sound we would have to have more details about the aircraft type before commenting. Some aircraft do make strange noises a times
