My wife and I are due to fly on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner soon from Denpasar to Sydney with Jetstar. Recent reports raise serious safety issues about the lithium ion batteries and the vented steel housing surrounding them to contain any fire in the batteries. This vented steel box surround was put in place after 2 incidents of fire in the batteries, the 2nd of which was while the plane was on the tarmac in Boston. NTSB in the US has strong reservations that the safety issues have been resolved, despite the FAA approving a licence to fly for the plane after the steel box measure was added. The plane is assembled in South Carolina and Washington State, many quality control issues have surfaced re assembly in the South Carolina factory, not so in Washington State. Have these issues been resolved? Is the Dreamliner a safe plane to fly in?

Yes the issues have been resolved. Every new aircraft type has teething problems - we just hear more about them these days than in days gone past because of social media. The Dreamliner is an exceptional aircraft and whilst we can never guarantee any ones safety we have no hesitations what so ever around the Dreamliner.
