Can anyone explain why an airline would reduce weight allowance of checked in baggage but have no checks on carry on baggage? Baggage allowances on domestic flights within India recently were reduced to 15kg. This meant passengers boarded with large amounts – both in size and weight – of carry on. Boarding was therefore slow and with such a large amount to be checked by security, a great deal of carry-on baggage had to be checked manually after being queried by the xray machine operator. I was in a group of 8, 6 of whom had to have baggage manually searched. Very time-consuming and frustrating having to repack luggage. From watching others I think that percentage would be pretty accurate. Surely it would be better to increase checked baggage allowances and enforce carry-on limits?
