In your rating for Silk Air, you state that it is “Fatality Free”. However if you do a search on google “Silk Air Palembang crash” you will see that Silk Air did crash in 1997 with 104 fatality. Silk Air/Singapore Airlines/Singapore Government has been trying to hide this fact or tried to make it go away for years. Please update your rating for Silk Air to reflect this fatality to honur the 104 people who died.

Thank you for your query. The tragic accident of Silk Air happened close to 17 years ago. We deduct a star for airlines that have had a crash that resulted in fatalities in the last 10 years. The reason for this is that 10 year allows enough time for culture, fleet and maintenance practice changes. Ultimately these three things are the cause of an accident and we deduct a star for a crash for 10 years as the research shows that it takes 10 years for changes to be made to ensure an accident is not repeated The reality is that with the exception of a very small few- every airline in the Jet era has had a crash. We need to rate the airlines on how their safety is today
