To coincide with the release of the latest trailer for the seventh film in the Star Wars series, “The Force Awakens,” All Nippon Airways (ANA) has announced it will introduce a Star Wars livery to its fleet as part of a 5 year agreement with The Walt Disney Company (Japan) Ltd.

To commence it’s Star Wars project, ANA unveiled a design to represent R2-D2, a popular robot from the original movie, at the recent Stars War Celebration in Anaheim, California. The livery will appear on ANA’s newest Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which is scheduled to make its first international flights with the airline this autumn.

While the specific routes operated by the aircraft with the Star Wars delivery has not yet been determined, ANA believes the partnership will strengthen its international presence following the expansion of the carrier’s long-haul network out of Haneda and Narita airports in Tokyo last spring.

“We’re proud of the innovative R2-D2 design, and we look forward to witnessing the first-ever flight of a passenger aircraft featuring a Star Wars character. We’re confident that Star Wars fans around the world will absolutely love this design,” says Kathleen Walters, vice president of marketing at Lucasfilm Ltd.

Given the likely popularity of the latest Star Wars movie at the box office, ANA hopes its innovative marketing move means the force will be with them for the busy travel season coming up.
